Born from a real need

Copitou was born in Montreal out of a daily annoyance: what you copy gets lost, and API keys end up sitting in plain text in a history anyone can read.

The app was built for real use first, then polished over real working days. Every feature exists because a need demanded it - not because a feature list did.

What Copitou does, in detail

Six reasons your Mac's clipboard will never be a junk drawer again.

A history that organizes itself

Links, text, code, images, colors, files: every copy is filed in its section, with counts and pins. Images show as a grid, colors as swatches, code in monospace - everything is recognizable at a glance.

A preview panel follows your selection and shows the full content, with its source and time.

Find even what's inside an image

Text in images is recognized locally, by macOS, at capture time. Search for "invoice" and the screenshot of an invoice comes right up - even if you never named it.

Search is instant and filters the section you're viewing: you search where you're looking.

The Safe: your keys never sit in plain text again

Copy an API key or token: Copitou recognizes it - about twenty services detected automatically - and stores it in the macOS Keychain instead of the history. A discreet banner tells you, and one click undoes it if the detection got it wrong.

The value stays masked; revealing or copying it requires Touch ID. And once a value is in the Safe, it never enters the history in the clear again - even when copied anew.

Copied twice? Counted, not duplicated

Copying the same value again never creates a duplicate: it's counted. History and Safe both hold to this, and a cleanup pass even merges older duplicates - with a single authentication.

The panel distinguishes captures (how many times the value arrived) from uses (how many times you reached for it).

Deleted means deleted

In most apps, "delete" frees the space without erasing the content, which stays readable inside the file. Copitou compacts its database and genuinely overwrites what you delete - one item, the whole history, or the Safe.

After - the database is rewritten, deleted content is overwritten

Copitou copies, you paste

No forced pasting, no synthetic keystrokes, so no system permission to grant - not even Accessibility. You choose, Copitou copies, a capsule confirms it, and ⌘V stays entirely yours, in the app of your choice.

The window stays open: chain several copies without ever reopening it.

Frequently asked questions

What is Copitou?

Copitou is a clipboard history manager for Mac, published by Sekoia in Montreal. It keeps everything you copy, files it by type - links, text, code, images, colors - and stores detected API keys in the Safe, behind Touch ID. 100% local, no subscription.

When is it available?

Copitou is available now on the Mac App Store, as a one-time purchase.

How much does it cost?

$5.99 US ($7.99 CAD), once. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no "premium" tier: you buy the app, it's yours.

What are the requirements?

A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) and a recent version of macOS. Touch ID is used for the Safe when your machine has it.

Where does my data go?

Nowhere. The history lives in a local database, isolated in the app's sandbox; secrets live in your Mac's macOS Keychain. Copitou has no networking code - it literally cannot send anything.

Does Copitou work offline?

Yes, entirely. Copitou contains no networking code: it works without an internet connection and literally cannot send anything. Your history and your Safe live on your Mac, and nowhere else.

Which languages?

English and French, both complete - the app follows your system language.

The clipboard your Mac deserves.
